Islamic Solidarity Games closing ceremony held in Baku

The closing ceremony of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games were held at the Baku-based Olympic Stadium on 22 May. Athletes from various countries marched in a single column, symbolizing solidarity of the Islamic world.
Overall, 54 countries participated in the Islamic Games. Azerbaijan won 75 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals, thus becoming the unofficial winner of the team event. Turkey, which won the majority of the medals, a total of 195, claimed 1st place, with Iran ranking 3rd.
As Mehriban Aliyeva, Azerbaijan’s First Vice-Premier and Chair of the Islamic Games Organizing Committee stated at the closing ceremony, having hosted the Games ‘Azerbaijan has once again achieved a historic victory.’
The next Islamic Solidarity Games are scheduled for 2021 in Istanbul. The flag of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) was handed over to Turkey.
