German politician says NATO must be scrapped

“NATO must be dissolved and replaced by a collective security system including Russia,” Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of the German Left Party’s faction in Bundestag, said, responding to US president-elect Donald Trump’s earlier comments about the alliance as an “obsolete” organization.

Also, she accused the German government of “mistakes and failures”.

The Left Party has previously lambasted EU and Germany’s stance on Russia, saying the sanctions imposed on the country were “dangerous”.

In an interview to the German tabloid “Bild,” Trump had described NATO as an “obsolete” organization and said it was “unfair to the US” that “the countries weren’t paying what they’re supposed to be paying”.
