A café explosion rocked Binagadi, a Baku suburb, at approximately 4:00 pm today. The Ministry of Emergency Situations informed APA news that a gas tank exploded and a fire broke out in the café due to a gas leak.
Small gas tanks are often used in small cafés in the outskirts of Baku when there are interruptions in the main gas supply, or in cafés without a gas connection. The café where the incident occurred had no gas line, Azeriqaz [Azerbaijan’s main gas supplier -ed] told Trend News.
The café is situated in a small stone and wood building. Anything flammable was incinerated.
The man and woman who died during the explosion were café employees. Two more were taken to the Republican Burn Centre in critical condition.
