Baku-Beijing flights canceled – because of business or the coronavirus?
Direct flights from Baku to Beijing will be temporarily cancelled starting January 30.
Flights will resume on March 8th. Azerbaijani airline AZAL explains this is due to low demand for tickets due to holidays in China.
AZAL said nothing about the outbreak in China of the coronavirus 2019-nCoV. But precisely for this reason, the day before, the Chinese company China Southern Airlines canceled a flight from the Chinese city of Guangzhou to Baku.
On January 25, China celebrated Chinese New Year, but celebrations were canceled due to the virus. The holiday break will last go on for an extended period of time until about mid-February – again due to the virus.
Baku airport is checking for signs of the virus amongst passengers coming into the country.
The Coronavirus 2019-nCoV in China has already killed 80 people, and more than two thousand have been infected.
