Famous Armenian cartoon artist David Sahakyants has left the Union of Cinematographers of Armenia because of the showing of a film about a transgender individual at the Golden Apricot film festival.
Saakyants was revolted by the film Prisoner of Society, shot by Georgian director Rati Tsiteladze, which won the Silver Apricot at the Golden Apricot international festival in Yerevan.
On Facebook, Saakyants wrote that he considers it “impossible and offensive to be in a union that allowed the prize to be presented to an outrageous and unprecedented film telling about the life of a transgender person.”
