The number of foreign visitors to Georgia and the country’s tourism revenue both declined in the second quarter of 2026, although visitor satisfaction and the average length of stay increased, according to a new report by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Official data show that 1.3 million foreign visitors travelled to Georgia between April and June, down 5.2% compared with the same period in 2025.
Most visitors — 81.5% — were tourists, meaning they stayed in Georgia for at least one night. Same-day visitors accounted for 14.8%, while 3.8% made both same-day and overnight visits.
According to the statistics, neighbouring countries continued to account for the largest share of international visitors to Georgia. Russia remained the biggest source market, with 328,900 visitors, or 25.1% of the total. It was followed by Turkey (16.9%) and Armenia (10.8%).
The largest age group among visitors was people aged 31 to 50, who accounted for 45.6% of the total. Men made up 57.1% of visitors, while women accounted for 42.9%.
Nearly half of all visits to Georgia (49.6%) were made for holidays, leisure and recreation. Visiting friends and relatives accounted for 25.6% of trips, while 12% were made for transit purposes.
Tbilisi and the Adjara region remained the most popular destinations. The capital accounted for 36.9% of all visits, while Adjara attracted 26.2%.
The decline in visitor numbers was reflected in tourism revenue. According to Geostat, foreign visitors spent a total of 3 billion lari (around $1.11 billion) in Georgia during the second quarter of 2026, down 13.3% compared with the same period last year.
Average spending per visit also fell by 9.2% over the same period, to 1,922.1 lari (around $711.9). Visitors spent the largest share of their budgets on food and drinks (27.3%), shopping (25.2%) and accommodation (24.3%).
Despite the decline in both visitor numbers and tourism spending, foreign visitors continued to rate their experience in Georgia highly. Some 54.4% of respondents described their trip as “very satisfying”, while 38.7% said it was “satisfying”, bringing the combined satisfaction rate to 93.1%.
The Geostat report also showed that the average length of stay increased from 5.30 to 5.48 nights. Meanwhile, 81.8% of visits were made by repeat visitors, indicating that most foreign travellers who have visited Georgia at least once return to the country.
