The brown marmorated stink bug, which has devastated certain crops in Georgia in recent years, is now being increasingly reported in Azerbaijan.
The insects allegedly emerged from the ruins of buildings recently demolished in downtown Baku, the chairman of the Azerbaijan Association of Hazelnut Producers and Exporters Ismail Orujov.
Orujov said that the association is already ready for a “confrontation” with the bug, but will not take too harsh measures.
“Right now, in this fight, we rely on nature,” he says.
The stink bug Is an agricultural pest that can cause enormous damage to various types of crops, including nuts, apples and corn. It is very difficult to remove by chemical methods. The pest poses no threat to humans.
