Explosion at Abkhazian munitions depot leaves 30 injured
At least 30 people have been injured as a result of an explosion at an ammunition depot of the Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia. The explosion took place at approximately 15:00 local time, in the village of Primorskoe of Gudauta region.
The explosion was so intense that it was felt in Pitsunda, 70 kilometers away. The exploding of munitions is still continuing. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has begun evacuating the local population of the Primorskoe village. Officially, 30 individuals have been injured including children. They are receiving medical treatment in the Gudauta, Novel Afon and Sukhum hospitals.
Information concerning the cause of the explosion has yet to be made known. The Prime Minister of the republic, Beslan Bartsits, is on site. A journalist from television channel Abaz who is in the village of Primorskoe says that there is a danger of fire spreading into the neighboring depot where other military equipment is housed. The probability of this happening is high.
