Central Bank’s New Year surprise

Bakuvians have been served up a surprise this morning in the form of one-third increased prices. Since December 21, the Central Bank is shifting to Manat floating exchange rate. In its official statement, the Bank’s administration has referred to the ‘global processes in the economy.’

Popular TV channels are now showing programs, where experts are explaining to the population in lay terms the delights of a floating exchange rate, calling on them not to give in to panic.

Facebook has not hesitated with the response:

‘Manat has passed away tonight, it simply does not know about it yet. And no one is telling it, they are afraid to upset it’

Thus, the US dollar rate in Azerbaijan makes AZN1.55 compared to yesterday’s AZN1.05.
