October street has been in a worn-down condition for decades. Now, just the width of its sidewalk makes more than three meters! Whereas the length of the street itself – two kilometers.
About RUB 90million [about $1,400,000] were spent on repairing the street. Four teams were simultaneously working for three months; new communications were laid on certain sections of the street. Vadim Gabaraev, Deputy Construction Minister, proudly says that all the materials (sand, gravel, slabs), except asphalt and concrete, are locally produced.
Now the design period has come. Benches, lights, flowers and shrubs.
Oleg Kudukhov is not a sculptor, he is Tskhinval native and loves it. However, he has an idea to turn the October street into an art-object. He is inspired by this monument to poet Mihai Eminescu, in Romania.
‘What I suggest is using the two trees so that their branches form a portrait of Kosta Khetagurov or Taymuraz Khadjeti.’
Oleg Kudukhov: ‘I’ll draw a sketch myself. Afterwards, I will contact the fellow artists in Vladikavkaz and we will cut two trees from a thick metal sheet. Then they should be put on a pedestal and that’s it. Cheap and unusual!’
