The body of Çingiz Qurbanov, an Azerbaijani serviceman who was killed in a border incident in the vicinity of Chinari village, Tavush province, on December 2016, has been returned to the Azerbaijani side one month later.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry claimed earlier, the Armenian side was artificially dragging transfer of the killed serviceman’s body irrespective of the presidents’ agreements. The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) officials called on the Armenian authorities on January 9 to return Qurbanov’s body.
Ruben Mehrabyan and Stepan Safaryan, the Armenian political analysts, also called for transfer of the serviceman’s body after the serious inquiry into the incident.
Qurbanov’s body, escorted by the honor guard with military solemnities, was taken to Baku.
