For the first time the Russian president confessed to having grandchildren. He did so in an interview to Oliver Stone, the author of a documentary about Vladimir Putin, CNN reports.
Putin said he loves his grandchildren, but cannot spend much time with them.
The statement is a sensation, since the president`s personal life has always been a mystery.
The fact is that Vladimir Putin has two daughters – Maria and Yekaterina.
Numerous (but unverified) reports in Russian and Western media claim the eldest daughter, Maria, lives in the Netherlands with her husband, a Dutch businessman, who used to be a member of Gazprom’s Board of Directors.
The youngest, Yekaterina, owns the Innopractica company, which receives multi-million contracts from major Russian state-controlled companies. She is married to Kirill Shamalov, Putin`s old friend’s son. Since 2013 (the year of marriage) he has become the owner of a 17% stake in the state controlled Sibur, which amounts to USD 2.85 billion.
Vladimir Putin divorced the mother of his daughters Lyudmila in 2013. He had previously criticized a Moscow correspondent paper for reporting his affair with Alina Kabaeva, the world champion in gymnastics, but never denied the fact.
