Street cleaning machines to gradually replace manual labour force in Baku
Ten German street-cleaning machines have been imported to Baku. They will partially lighten the workload on street cleaners who currently sweep the road with brooms.
Baku municipal authorities say that another shipment is expected, meaning that street-cleaning will largely be performed using machines. European experts have been brought in to help implement this programme.
This may mean the end of street-cleaner deaths in Baku which, in recent times, have become a rather common occurrence. Several female street-cleaners have been run over by automobiles while sweeping high-speed roads. Citizens have voiced their concern over these incidents, demanding that the state purchase technical equipment to perform these tasks.
However, some social media users have voiced their discontent regarding the new equipment:
“What now? These women will end up without work. What will they live on?”
“Of course… So many people have been run over, and now they’re bringing in machines… .”
