A countrywide search across Georgia has been declared for Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia (MIA).
The agency said that Mukhtarli’s disappearance was reported by his family members.
Afgan Mukhtrli has been living in Tbilisi for over a year. His journalistic activity has entailed certain issues with the Azerbaijani government. Mukhtarli left his apartment yesterday, 29 May, and has been missing since, not answering phone calls. Mukhtarli was last seen by fellow Azeri journalist at around 7 pm.
Last week, JAMnews dedicated a comprehensive report to the Azerbaijani political refugees that have found shelter in Georgia, with Afgan being one of the characters in the report. In a conversation with JAMnews, he said that Azerbaijani activists had been experiencing difficulties on the part of the Georgian government over the last 6-7 months.
