A hundred and five kilograms of heroin was seized today at the Armenian-Iranian customs point in Meghri.
The drugs were found in the luggage compartment of a refrigerated truck registered to DAF, a Georgian company, which in turn belongs to Omertransport Ltd. A Turkish driver by the name of Ferdi Ozdemiri was behind the wheel at the time.
All the case files have already been handed over to the National Security Service.
“Over the course of 2017, 71 attempts to smuggle drugs and psychotropic substances into Armenia were prevented. Experience shows that the majority of cases take place on the Armenian-Iranian border. There are also attempts to smuggle in drugs via the post,” a statement from the Committee on State Revenue said.
So far, 206 cases of customs violations have been noted in the past few months of this year.
