Children's holiday marred by accident in Baku
Festivities in honor of Children’s Day were disrupted when a strong wind blew over one of the attractions – a several metres high inflatable hill – and brought it down on the crowd.
The incident went public when eyewitnesses uploaded a video of the event online. As reported by Contact.az, according to unofficial data about 20 people were injured. There is no official information on the incident at this time. Most media resources ignored reporting the event.
Active online discussions on social networks blame organizers for a lack of responsibility and urge people to keep their children far from large festive gatherings. One user’s post captures the mood of the online comments:
“I always avoid large overcrowded events because of a complete distrust in the organizers.”
The children’s holiday was held outdoors per initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and with the support of several state agencies. Hundreds of children took part, including children from orphanages and boarding schools.
