According to the data as of 1:30 p.m. April 26, there has been no information on what caused the blast, as well as the precise number of people killed. The incident occurred at about 09:50 p.m the previous day. According to early reports, two people died and seven were injured to different degrees.
The bus driver is unwounded and will soon be providing his testimony. The criminal proceedings will take place on the grounds of Section III of Article 279 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (which addresses the production or sales of illegal goods and performance of works and services not meeting security requirements, which result in the careless death of two or more individuals). The case has been submitted to the Special Cases Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
As the Armenian media has reported referring to to the Chief of the Armenian Police’s statements, the bus was operating on diesel fuel. This means that the blast was not caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder which many transport vehicles in Armenia are equipped with. Police neither disprove nor confirm the rumors about a possible terrorist attack.
Vehicular traffic on Alabyan street, specifically the section between Estonakan and Arzumanyan street, where the incident occurred, has been closed off completely.
