The National Security Service of Armenia conducted searches in the Yerevan City Hall and revealed cases of fraud and abuse of vested authority by the City Hall employees.
Two citizens filed a complaint with the enforcement agency and said that they were required to transfer large sums in addition to statutory payments to the account of the Yerevan fund in exchange for registration of property and issue of a building permit at the mayor’s office.
“In the process of preparing the materials it was found out that part of the above funds, paid in hand, was not transferred to the fund’s account, but was appropriated,” the NSC said.
As a result, the National Security Service launched criminal proceedings under two articles – abuse of official powers, negligently leading to serious consequences, and fraud using official position.
The Yerevan Foundation was registered in 2007. The chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation is the Mayor of Yerevan, Taron Margaryan. Armenian media informs that the members of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation include Taron Margaryan’s deputies, his adviser, secretary of the administration of the mayoralty, heads of departments, and members of the Council of Elders.
