U.S. President Donald Trump has sacked the FBI Director, James Comey. The latter learned about his dismissal from TV news. As the U.S. President pointed out in his letter to the FBI Chief, he doubted that he would be able to effectively lead the Bureau.
Trump’s unexpected decision triggered a wide-scale political scandal in the USA. The problem is that it was Comey who lead an investigation into the Trump team’s alleged links with Russian intelligence services. President Trump’s opponents claim that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin presumed that Trump’s victory in the presidential election would be more beneficial for him, than Hillary Clinton’s presidency.
The observers recall a similar episode in U.S. history, when in 1973, President Nixon fired special prosecutor Archibald Cox, who had led a probe against Nixon. A year later, President Nixon faced impeachment and lost his post.
