Ammendments to the law ‘On citizenship’ have entered into force today.
Now, former citizens of Georgia can appeal to the Public Service Development Agency with the request to have Georgian citizenship restored if they lost it as a result of receiving the citizenship of another country.
The ammendments were added in connection with changes made to the Georgian constitution which allows Georgian citizens to have dual citizenship, Novosti Gruzia reports.
In order to have Georgian citizenship restored, former citizens must appeal to the agency before 31 December 2020.
The law states that citizenship vcan be restored if the former Georgian citizen meets several critera, including: mastery of the state language of Georgia, is not wanted by law enforcement agencies and is not currently wanted for extradition or deportation.
Moreover, should an individual receive citizenship, their underage children will automatically be given Georgian citizenship.
